California Rodeo Salinas History
The first California Rodeo Salinas was held in 1911 and was originally named the Wild West Show. The rodeo quickly became famous throughout the country. Cowboys like Will Rogers, Gene Autry, Amanda Blake, and Clint Eastwood have performed at the rodeo.
Toby Keith Concert
The Big Week Kickoff Concert is back and features superstar Toby Keith. This memorable concert is scheduled for July 15th and features a guest star, Clay Walker. Country artist Claudia Hoyser will kick off this fun concert.
Toby Keith is known for his fun country songs with memorable lyrics, including “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “Red Solo Cup,” and “How Do You Like Me Now.” Keith has won dozens of awards and entertained millions of fans. This concert is sure to be a night to remember!
Rodeo Events
The rodeo features all the rodeo action you crave. Guests can watch bareback riding, bull riding, and saddle bronc riding. Timed events include steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping. In addition, main events include freestyle bullfighting, women’s breakaway roping, barrel racing, and the ever-popular Industrial Calf Dressing competition.
Special Events
The weeklong rodeo will host several special events. First, check out the exciting Banda MS Concert on July 16th. Then, on Wednesday, July 20th, sign up for the Cowboy Shoot Out Golf Tournament and test your mettle in another ring.
The Big Week Bull Riding event is held on Wednesday, July 20th. Guests can take their seats at 5:00 PM for the 7:00 PM kick-off. This heart-pounding event features non-stop bull-riding thrills as the best bull riders in the country should off their skills.
Kiddie Kapers Parade
The 2022 Kiddie Kapers Parade is on Sunday, July 17th, at 3:00 PM. This year’s theme is “Believe in Yourself,” and kids are invited to dress up as who they want to be. For example, kids might choose to dress as an astronaut, bullfighter, doctor, musician, or whatever best represents their dreams.
This exciting parade has eight divisions, including Playground Floats, Strollers & Wagons, Cowboys and Cowgirls, Costumed Kids & Pets, Community Groups, Dance & Drill Teams, Rolling Riders, and Group Floats.
Thousands of community members line up to support over 1,200 amazing kids.
2022 California Rodeo Carnival
The Carnival is a fun, family-friendly event that runs from July 15th through July 24th. Families can enjoy their favorite carnival rides, games, and food.
