Carmel's annual Bach Festival is a go for 2021! With multiple venues, huge concerts, and lots of minor chamber music and soloists, classical music lovers from all over the world will be flocking to our area. A festival is a beautiful event in the central California area that is fun for all ages and an excellent way to experience the beauty of Carmel and Monterey.
The 2021 Carmel Bach Festival Returns
California's oldest music festival is back in Carmel this October. The Bach Festival runs from October 23 until November 5, 2021. These 14 days of performances focus on JS Bach, of course--but it also features all of the composers whose work he influenced. You'll hear Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, and many more.
Main Concerts
The main concerts of the event are going to be held at the Sunset Theater. These are the centerpiece festival concerts. These concerts are one hour long with no intermission.
The Reunion concert will feature an orchestra, chorale, and soloists conducted by Paul Goodwin. Works will feature Bach and Handel. The show will be presented on October 23 and 30 at 7:30 pm.
Other significant events for the main concert stage will feature Bach's Mass in B-Minor, Pianist George Li performing Bach, Beethoven and Liszt, two of Bach's Brandenburg Concerti and Vivaldi, Dido and Aeneas. There are also special folk and baroque music performances from the Iberian peninsula and songs and readings from The Art of Courtly Love.
Chamber Concerts
You can hear the fantastic work of Bach's contemporaries and heirs during the many chamber concerts held during the event. Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn, Brahms, Schubert, Rossini, and Mozart will all appear, or their notable works will.
Chamber concerts include 17th-century violin and lute, flute, and the Young Artists' Showcase. Artists featured include soloist Clara Rottsolk, Linda Lee, Thomas Cooley, and Donald Sulzer.
Venues
The great thing about the Bach Festival is that it spans the town. There are lots more events than just the main concerts. Chamber concerts are scattered around town throughout the event. Some are held at the Sunset Theater between main shows, but others will be held at Carmel Mission, All Saints Church, Church in the Forest in Pebble Beach, and Carmel Presbyterian.
Tickets
You can purchase tickets through the event's official festival ticket website. Prices depend on the circumstances you want to attend. Some are even free!
COVID Safety
All attendees of the event must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Masks are required at all indoor concerts. Check the festival website for complete details.
